Supporting your child's learning

Working in Partnership with Parents

At Tewin Cowper Church of England Primary School, we believe that a strong partnership between school and home is essential in helping every child flourish. Guided by our mustard seed vision, we are rooted in the belief that from the smallest of seeds grow the greatest of trees. We work closely with parents and carers to nurture each child’s learning, wellbeing and personal development so that every pupil can grow and thrive.

Our leadership team is committed to maintaining high expectations for every pupil and ensuring that families are well informed about their child’s progress and next steps in learning. Clear communication between school and home helps us work together to support pupils to achieve their very best.

Sharing your child’s progress

We provide regular opportunities throughout the year for parents and carers to meet with teachers and discuss their child’s learning, progress and wellbeing.

Autumn Term
Early in the school year, parents are invited to a consultation meeting with their child’s teacher. This meeting focusses on how well pupils have settled into their new class, the learning expectations for the year ahead and the targets that have been set in reading, writing and mathematics. Parents will also receive a short summary report later in the term, with guidance on how learning can be supported at home.

Spring Term
Parents are invited to a further consultation meeting to review progress, celebrate achievements and discuss next steps in learning. A short summary report will also be shared, providing advice on how families can continue to support their child’s development.

Summer Term
At the end of the academic year, parents receive a full written report outlining their child’s  attainment, progress and personal development across the curriculum.

These opportunities ensure that parents remain well-informed and that there is a clear, shared understanding of each child’s learning journey.

Open communication and engagement

We encourage parents and carers to engage with school life through Curriculum Information Evenings, Open Classroom sessions, school events and community activities. These opportunities help families understand how learning is structured and how children develop their knowledge and skills across the curriculum.

Information about meetings and events will always be shared in advance through the school newsletter and communication from the school office.

However, families do not need to wait for formal meetings if they have questions or concerns. Staff and leaders value open communication and will always make time to talk with parents and carers when needed.

Inclusive support for all pupils

In line with our commitment to inclusive practice, we work closely with families to ensure that all pupils receive the support they need to succeed. For pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), additional termly review meetings are held with parents and carers. These meetings focus on reviewing progress, evaluating the effectiveness of provision and updating Individual Provision Plans (IPPs) so that support remains carefully tailored to each pupil’s needs.

Through strong leadership, clear communication and a shared commitment to high expectations, we work together with families to ensure that every child at Tewin Cowper is supported to believe in themselves, grow in confidence and succeed in their learning.
