The Governing Body
Welcome to our Governors’ section.
Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.
The role of the Governing Body
The School Governing body is responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality education. Together with the headteacher, who is responsible for day-to-day management, they set the school’s aims and policies.
Governors have three main roles:
- To provide strategic direction for the school
- To act as a critical friend to the head teacher
- To ensure accountability
Governors also have some important duties which they perform in collaboration with the headteacher and the senior leadership team. These include:
- Determining how the budget is spent
- The appointment of staff
- Setting standards for pupils’ behaviour and consequences
- Making sure school buildings are welcoming and safe
- Setting and monitoring the school’s aims and policies

Contacting the Governors
The Governing Body values the views of parents and recognises the important role they play in shaping the strategic direction and future development of the school. We welcome constructive feedback and ideas that help us evaluate how effectively the school is fulfilling its vision, values and responsibilities.
Parents are encouraged to share views on matters of strategy, policy and long-term improvement, which support the Governing Body in its role of holding school leaders to account and ensuring the best outcomes for pupils.
Parents can contact the Governing Body in the following ways:
-
By emailing governors@tewincowper.herts.sch.uk
-
By writing to the Governing Body via the school office (marked for the attention of the Chair of Governors)
Parent Governors also provide a valuable parental perspective within the Governing Body and contribute to discussions about the school’s strategic priorities.
