Year 6 visited the Royal Air Force Museum in Hendon.
This was a curriculum trip linked to their learning in History – the impact of WWII on the people of Britain. We started our day with a workshop, where we experienced what life was like for the people of Britain during WWII. The children got to try on gas masks, hold an incendiary bomb and learnt how fires were fought by the ARP. We then got to experience an air raid, where the children had to hide in an Anderson Shelter until we heard the all -clear signal.
Children then had the opportunity to try on military uniforms. There was a selection of many jackets which had previously belonged to pilots, engineers, corporals and many more.
After lunch, we got to explore the six hangars filled with planes, medals, uniforms, interactive activities and much more. We listened to a talk about a Lancaster Bomber before the children finished the day off with some sketching of their favourite plane. A fabulous day was had by all.
AUTUMN TERM
Olive Class presented their Remembrance Assembly in church.
They spoke about the contributions that the soldiers had made and about the significance of the poppies. We laid a wreath at the war memorial. The hymns 'We Shall Remember' and 'Peace Perfect Peace' were sung beautifully by the children.
