Allotment

September 2025

We are incredibly grateful to THACS and the Tewin community for generously providing us with our very own allotment. This wonderful opportunity reflects our school value of thankfulness, and we are truly appreciative of the support and care shown to our children.

Each week, Year 4 pupils visit the allotment on a Thursday afternoon to learn how to plant, grow and care for vegetables, herbs and flowers. These sessions encourage respect for the natural world and help children understand where food comes from, as well as the importance of working together.

Since returning to school in September, the children have enjoyed harvesting a small selection of vegetables. However, our main focus has been preparing the ground ready for the spring. Using a range of tools, pupils have been busy weeding the plot and learning how to use equipment safely, honestly and responsibly. This has required courage to try new skills and perseverance when tasks have been challenging.

As part of this process, the children have also been thinking carefully about what they would like to plant during the year. Through hands-on learning, they have developed a growing understanding of the seasons and which fruits, vegetables and flowers are suitable for our plot at different times of the year.

Our allotment work links closely to our school vision, inspired by the Bible story of the mustard seed. Just as a tiny seed can grow into something strong and fruitful, the children are learning that small actions — kindness, patience, teamwork and care — can grow into something meaningful. Through working together, pupils show love, respect and forgiveness, supporting one another and learning from mistakes along the way.

We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in supporting our ‘allotment antics’. So much care and effort goes on behind the scenes when we are unable to tend the plot, and this support is deeply appreciated. Together, we are helping our children grow — just like the seeds they plant. 🌿
