Summer Term
Sycamore Summer Optional Homework
Summer 1 - Square and Cubed Numbers
In maths this term, the children have focused on developing their knowledge of square and cube numbers. They used concrete materials to construct each number first before considering the pictorial representation. From their work on square numbers, they moved onto cube numbers before developing their understanding of volume.

Spring Term
Dance Mat Typing Learn to type the fun way!
Spring 2 - Life Cycles and Reproduction
In Science this half term, we have been learning to dissect flowers and name the male and female parts of flowering plants as a way to develop the children's knowledge of sexual and asexual plant reproduction. The children enjoyed the dissection using tulips as it allowed them to clearly see the different sections and how they fit together.

Spring 1 - Gears and South West Africa
In our recent Design and Technology unit, the children investigated how gears worked. They created their own cogs that could interlock and then discovered how these cogs worked together to making a working gear model. Whilst in Music in our unit titled South West Africa the children learned to sing using the correct pronunciation and with increasing confidence - which was challenging as the song they were learning was in Afrikaans. They learnt to play a two-note chord, develop rhythms in time and with rests and preform their music in front of the class.

Autumn Term
Autumn 1 - Electrical Systems
We finished our DT unit on electrical systems and had great fun creating our own doodlers. These are gadgets that use an electrical circuit and a counterweight to produce wiggly patterns or "doodles". We learnt a lot about how to design a product and how to problem solve to make our gadget work better, such as how to position the coloured pens and the counterweight to give the best result. We all loved the results!
